Woomera Area School,
through effective communication, participation and decision
making
by the whole school community, aims to maximise opportunity so that
all
students and staff realise their full potential in a positive
learning and teaching
environment. Woomera is a remote and isolated
community situated in a desert environment and serves the needs of
military and civilian personnel.
Woomera Area School provides a friendly, caring and pleasant learning
environment
for students from birth to Year 12 (ELC-12). The school's excellent
facilities consist of science labs, a 1:1 ratio of computers to students, gym,
joint school community use
library, child parent centre, pergola areas, marine
centre and aquaculture lab. A variety
of other specialist areas and ample
classroom space are maintained and developed primarily by Defence Centre Woomera.
The school's teachers are experienced in supporting transient
students, as employment opportunities and professional transfers
lead to a high level of student turnover. Staff
are also skilled in maximising the benefits of small class sizes, with most classes
having between 10 and 14 students, which allows for extra
individualised support.
